Description: Amazonite & Smoky Quartz Cluster w/Cleavelandite from Colorado Very unique piece with three different minerals/crystals. Size is approximately 3" x 2.5". Colorado is well known for its unique combination of amazonite and smoky quartz crystals. The blue-green microcline feldspar and rich black smoky quartz crystals create an unparalleled contrast making these specimens highly prized among collectors. Amazonite is found in hydrothermal veins, pegmatites, granite pegmatites, schists and gneisses, and also as grains in sedimentary rocks. It is formed in deep-sea igneous rocks that once cooled very slowly. The color of smoky quartz is produced when natural radiation, emitted from the surrounding rock, activates color centers around aluminum impurities within the crystalline quartz. Cleavelandite is the white lamellar variety of albite. Albite is a plagioclase feldspar mineral.
