It was carrying about 450,000 reales worth of coins that were intended to help improve the economy of the Louisiana Territory, which was operating on worthless paper money not backed by gold or silver. The ship was never heard from again, and was officially listed as missing in June of 1784. It's location remained a mystery until a fisherman snagged the treasure with his fishing nets in the 1990's. This coin is one of the ones recovered from the wreak, complete with PCGS Shipwreck Certification, graded Prime Select, which means it is in top condition among those recovered.
