(buy it instead of Zoomed whose filters are complicated , noisy and break!)Now THIS is quality 23 Nov 20I previously ordered the Penn Plax canister filter and I've since returned it due to excessive noise and really low quality filter media.I am very happy with my purchase of the EHEIM canister filter, it is working flawlessly after 30 minutes of setup. There is a very helpful youtube video for setup that an aquarium in the united states did, make sure you watch that and you'll save yourself any second guessing!Great filter 8 Nov 20So this filter uses valve on top and valve on bottom. I like this because it forces all the filter media to be used and makes for easy prime. Filters with both valves on top have issues with drawing water through all the media, but not this filter. To prime I just fill it up with water beforehand, and then just turn it on. Easy as that! Never had a filter prime without a lot of drama before. It runs really really quiet. The filter media that comes with the filter is super great. The little balls act like a good gravel-like mech filter plus a bio filter, and it is working great for me. I have large pleco's and with old filter my water gets cloudy a lot. Put in this new filter and it cleared that up right away. The water stream is Really powerful for my 55 gal but with careful placement of the output wand, this powerful filter is working great on such a small tank. The fish do seem to like the extra current, but I have it aimed so it doesn't overwhelm them. I went for a more powerful filter on purpose to help with the waste my plecos put out, and I am very happy with my choice. Instructions could use some improving. There was stuff I had to figure out on my own.Sadly costs to maintain 11 Oct 20Pros:-Quiet. This morning I had to touch it to prove it was still working! Sometimes it gets an air bubble and chews on that for a while but otherwise basically silent.-Easy to set up and disconnect for cleaning.Cons:-Replacement parts. The plastic seems more brittle than I’m used to, already two replacement parts needed or else leaks. Be GENTLE. Really enjoying this clear water!Quiet, Effective FIlter for a Fluval Edge 12 Gallon Tank 1 Aug 20I have a Fluval Edge 12 gallon aquarium, which comes with a hang-over-back (HOB) filter. While the HOB filter is okay, there are a couple of areas I'm hoping to improve on: (1) quiet water flow, (2) larger volume of filter media. With the HOB filter, if I adjust the water flow to more than half its maximum, the sound of the water return splashing onto the water surface was a bit loud (even with water level pretty close to the top), and it also has the added problem of creating too much water flow for the comfort of the fishes (a number of them would just hang out at the top corners and avoid the central "waterfall" area). With the Eheim Classic 150 (model number 2211), it creates gentle water flow with the included spray bar (which I submerge vertically due to the Fluval Edge's lack of top access) but enough circulation and I can literally see the fishes that used to hide from strong currents come into the center of the tank, and they look much more at ease.The Classic 150 is also very effective: it has maybe 5 times the filter media volume compared to the HOB filter (the Eheim spec says 1 liter). This is important because it has much more volume for biological media that supports a much larger colony of beneficial bacteria which is essential for a stable, healthy tank. The kit comes with "Eheim Mech" which are ceramic rings that occupy the first 1/5th of the volume, then a coarse filter pad, then 3/5ths of the volume is occupied by "Eheim Substrat Pro" which is a good environment for beneficial bacterial, and then a carbon pad, and a fine pad. So far I have run the filter for 2 months without needing to clean out the media yet, as the water is crystal clear and water tests fine in a pretty highly stocked tank.Before buying the Eheim Classic 150, I was considering the Fluval 107 and 207, but after reading some comments about uneven water flow pattern in the Fluval (and examining the design from Fluval's diagrams), I decided on the Eheim Classic 150. I also like Eheim in general for 2 reasons: (1) this is a brand I've been familiar since 30 years ago when I used to keep a 40 gallon and a 60 gallon tank and I know Eheims are reliable and very easy to maintain with parts from the manufacturer, and (2) I simply like the quieter look of the Eheim Classic more than the Fluval's "black everything" look (entirely subjective). (And if you don't like the green intake and spray bar, look into the clear glass or acrylic lily pipes).A final note about setting it up: There are a bit of comments complaining about the instructions and/or the difficulty of setting it up (particularly priming). It's actually very easy (but not mentioned in the instructions): (1) fill the filter with treated water, up to the brim, then put on the motor housing (a bit of water may overflow; just put a towel under the filter or do this over the sink or bucket); (2) using a suction bulb, like the one that is used for vacuuming the gravel or changing water, detach the suction bulb from its siphoning tubes and put it onto the end of the intake tube -- pump a couple of times to get the water flowing from the tank into the tube. Once the intake tube is siphoning water, put it onto the intake/bottom bib of the filter. All this can be done with the filter and intake tube inside a bucket or a pan to prevent spilling water onto the floor. Once the hoses are secured (turning the collars actually tighten the collar against the tubing, creating a very secure and water tight connection), just turn on the pump and the previously empty return tube (which is smaller than the intake tube) at the top of the motor housing will start pumping water into the tank. My kit comes with the taps/valves that allow you to stop water flow (remember to turn off the filter motor before cutting off water flow with the taps), detach the hoses, and still keep water in the tubes and therefore avoid having to prime after you clean the filter. I cut the supplied hoses so that the taps are close to the inlet and outlet of the filter, for ease of detaching the filter for cleaning. These taps/valves are totally worth the money if it's not included in your particular version. Instructions do not tell you these tricks, but once you know it, it's dead simple.Hope this helps people who might otherwise be put off by actually pretty simple procedures.High quality, well made. 3 Jun 20I like this canister filter however, the fine pad clogs sooner than I expected. The water is very clear but the fine pad clogs in a few days. I will guess that after I learn how to use this it will work more to my satisfaction.Long lasting, no trouble 20 May 20I recently had one of these die after approximately 30 years of operation.Great product, burn the instruction manual 13 May 20The first one arrived broken, but the replacement was ordered and shipped so quickly it didn't feel like much of a hassle. The service was quick, even in pandemic mode. The setup directions are garbage. There's no point in even looking at them - just watch the YouTube videos.All that being said, I'm very happy with the filter. Everything fits together nicely, I have no concern for leaks, the machine is silent, and the GPH had no trouble with my 60 gallon overstocked with a breeding shoal of cories and otos. I was excited all week waiting for it to arrive. Once it did I was upset to see one of the hose couplings was broken. Nether coupling was packaged to avoid damage and were seemingly just tossed into the bottom of the box. The light gray piece which secures the individual ball valves together appears to have snapped with the threaded part separated from the clips.Additionally, the outlet tube was not at all secured or packaged and could have also been damaged.Very satisfied 25 Mar 20Outstanding product. I am so glad I did my research on canister filters and decided on this product. Will definitely recommend to friends.Impeller Rod 19 Mar 20The Impeller rod is made of ceramic. It's is very fragile. Mine shattered and I am at a loss as to whether the motor is shot or not. I will keep you updated.Best cannister at any price 16 Mar 20I love Eheim Classic canister filters. I have a 2217 on my 55 gallon and decided to replace my noisey Aquaclear h.o.b. with a 2215. This is a lot of filtration for the size of the tank but I tend to overfeed my cichlids to try to reduce aggression. The 2215 is probably the best price point of the line. It is a large canister that can move a lot of water. The filter comes with everything you need in the box. It is super quiet and very reliable. I have been running the 2217 for about 6 years with zero issues. I especially like the fact that the water enters through the bottom of the canister and there is no way for it to sneak around the media before re-entering my aquarium.
