Description: A group of original artifacts excavated on the Chancellorsville Battlefield in Virginia. The lock plate and gun tool are for the 1861 Springfield rifle which would have used the two Federal issue .58 rounds. The hammer is for the Model 1842 .69 Musket used through out the Civil War. The rifle sling is for an imported musket. The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought from April 30 to May 6, 1863, near the village of Chancellorsville. Two related battles were fought nearby on May 3 in the vicinity of Fredericksburg. The campaign pitted Union Army Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker's “Army of the Potomac” against an army less than half its size, General Robert E. Lee's Confederate “Army of Northern Virginia”. The artifacts come with an 6” x 8” riker mount box as shown. We are packing the artifacts separately so they don’t scratch the glass. The black felt behind the artifacts in the picture is over soft cotton batting which allows the relic to settle into it and allows for the different thicknesses. Take the pins out of the side of the case and lift off the lid. You can place the relics however you like. Copies of the paperwork shown will come with the certificate. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. Please see our "About” for more information on the framing and artifacts.
