Description: I'm pleased to offer this excellent specimen of Analcime on Thomsonite-Ca from North Table Mountain, Golden, Jefferson County, Colorado. The specimen measures 3.89 x 3.32 x 2.77 inches or 9.88 x 8.43 x 7.03cm and is in superb condition! This is from the Erich Laskowski (1949-2020) collection of Tucson, Arizona. He collected a suite of Table Mountain specimens when he worked as a geologist for AMAX Gold in Golden, Colorado. He collected extensively in Colorado and later worked at the Hayden Hill mine (gold) in California and the Bagdad mine (copper) in Arizona. I acquired a huge portion of his collection in April, 2021. Two good friends handled his mineral estate and they related to me that Erich would scout areas on North Table Mountain in Winter and would squirt water into cracks around vugs in the basalt and would return at a later time to collect these vugs made more accessible by the enlarged cracks created by the freezing water turning to ice! Very smart and exceptionally patient! This is by far the largest and best piece from this locality in his collection. Analcime has always been one of my favorite minerals. When I was a kid and starting buying minerals via mail order and at rock shops, I was especially drawn to sharp single crystals and some of my first purchased specimens were inexpensive thumbnail-sized sharp single crystals of analcime, aragonite, leucite, orthoclase, etc. I've also personally collected some fine analcime specimens in northern Michigan and at the famous Horseshoe Dam zeolite locality here in Arizona (starting way back in 1977). The North Table Mountain (and nearby South Table Mountain) localities have long been famous for such specimens that occur in erosion-resistant lava flows that cap these two mesas. The igneous "lava flow cap" overlay various sedimentary rocks (mostly shales and sandstones) and hosts cavities that are oftentimes lined with zeolite minerals and their associates (esp. calcite). The rock is very competent and hard and was quarried decades ago for use in road construction; in fact, much of the material was actually sawn to make interlocking bricks. This is a choice specimen showing an intact vug lined with hemispheres of tightly compacted thomsonite-Ca crystals that are adorned with lustrous colorless to white trapezohedral analcime crystals to about 1.5cm. The specimen sits well for display and the contrast of the zeolite-filled vug against the dark basalt is excellent. Please check my feedback and my other eBay items. All specimens are carefully wrapped, come with complete and accurate labels and are quickly shipped. As always, your complete satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed and I even offer FREE return shipping on any item that fails to satisfy for any reason---you can't go wrong. I'm reminded of the firm pledge printed on the old Foote Mineral Company mineral catalogs from more than a century ago, "Quality of specimens is assured as we permit return of specimens at our expense." Thanks for looking! I buy collections! Please contact me if you have a collection for sale or know of one that is available. I will pay a finder's fee to anyone that can point me to an eventual purchase!
