Description: Chip Deffaa's Tin Pan Alley: Songs I Sing to My Deer.... (new CD). ASCAP Award-winner Chip Deffaa sings with panache oldtime showbiz numbers taught to him by Carol Channing, George Burns, Ruth Brown, and others. His repertoire includes vintage pop songs that everyone knows, plus wondrous rarities and re-discoveries that Deffaa has found over the years. And--mixing in some reminiscences of greats he's known, along with the songs--Deffaa conjures up a wealth of showbiz history. He's the first person to ever record the last song that George M. Cohan wrote. You'll hear it here--and it's a gem!--along with some more familiar Cohan numbers, because Cohan was Deffaa's first musical hero. There are vaudeville numbers and early jazz and blues numbers--songs by assorted writers that Deffaa has been talk/singing with gusto virtually all of his life. Mentored in his youth by a former vaudevillian, Todd Fisher, Deffaa first sang some of these numbers in shows as a kid. He's sung over the years as a guest artist on assorted albums (including "The Irving Berlin Duets Album," "The George M. Cohan Songbook," "The Michael Townsend Wright Album"), as well as making club and festival appearances. He's joined on select tracks of this album by some special guests from the worlds of Broadway, cabaret, and jazz, including Jon Peterson, Molly Ryan, Keith Anderson, Michael Townsend Wright, Olivia Chun, Brian Gari, Katherine Paulsen, and Logan & Lawson Saby Providing accompaniment are music director/pianist Richard Danley and Grammy-winning violinist Andy Stein. Lots of warmth, heart, and joy in this album. An expert on oldtime show business, Deffaa is the author of such books as "Jazz Veterans," "Voices of the Jazz Age," and "Blue Rhythms," and such musical plays as "George M. Cohan Tonight!," "The Seven Little Foys," and "One Night with Fanny Brice." He's produced albums of such early Broadway and vaudeville greats as George M. Cohan ("George M. Cohan: Rare Performances"), Al Jolson ("Al Jolson: King of Broadway" and "Al Jolson Sings Irving Berlin"), Fanny Brice ("Fanny Brice: Rare and Unreleased Recordings," "Fanny Brice: the Real Funny Girl"), "Chip Deffaa's Broadway and Vaudeville Legends," etc.
