Description: Chip Deffaa's Mad About the Boy, Original Cast Album, 13th Street Theater Production.... Conceived, written, and originally directed in New York by Chip Deffaa, "Mad About the Boy" is a classic gay revue, with songs going back to the 1920s. It's an ebullient, proud, and sometimes poignant reminder that long before the modern gay-rights movement, there were songwriters in Harlem, in Berlin, in London, on Broadway and on Tin Pan Alley dealing with gay life. This revue--a greatly revised, expanded version of one that was a surprise hit at the Chip Deffaa Invitational Theater Festival--broke box-office records at New York's 13th Street Theater. The cast includes Joris de Graaf, Luka Fric, Cody Jordan, John Brady, Benjamin Grier, Toby Medlyn, Katherine Paulsen, Maite Uzal, Amanda Andrews, J. C. Anderson, Al Roths, Shinice Hemmings, and Michael Knowles, with musical director Richard Danley. Special guest-stars for this recording: Broadway's Terri White and Jon Peterson. The score mixes vintage rarities with new material by Deffaa. Ten percent of all revenues go to support the charity Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS. The cast album of the first production is also available on Ebay: "Chip Deffaa's Mad About the Boy: The Festival Cast plus Special Guests."
