Description: Childs Transferware Toy Plate CINDERELLA & PRINCE CHARMING T.G. Green & Co. Derbyshire England c. 1890 This is a wonderful and rare child's transferware plate, circa 1890. Originally part of a child's complete tea set, the tiny plate measures about 4-1/8 inches in diameter printed in country red. The original set featured various scenes from the story of Cinderella. This plate depicts Prince Charming putting the glass slipper on Cinderella's foot. The caption below the image reads: THE PRINCE EXCLAIMED IT MUST BE MY PRINCESS! The scene is delightfully embellished with curtains in the background decorated with hearts. The plate is marked with British Registration number 128955. Identical in style and quality to the wares made in Staffordshire, this set was made by T.G. Green, a pottery manufactory in the Derbyshire region of England who registered the Cinderella pattern in the year 1889. The plate is in great condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The workmanship is haphazard, which is one of the reasons many people collect it...not fine china, and not meant to be; it was made for children and probably considered disposable. The transfers are not aligned neatly, there is runny glaze and little bumps and dips and transfer wrinkles and glazed over edge frits original to the making. The naïve and hasty style adds to the folksy charm. This fabulous little plate depicting the much beloved fairy tale will make a fantastic addition to any collection of red aesthetic transferware, and collectors of children's early dishes will proudly add this to their display.
