Description: Child's Toy Brown Transferware Plate OUR EARLY DAYS ~ NOW I'M GRANDFATHER Staffordshire England 1840This is a wonderful child's transferware toy plate measuring 5-1/4 inches in diameter with a press moulded floral border surrounding a central image of a little girl playing dress-up, sitting in an oversized chair in her grandfather's study, holding his newspaper and long stemmed pipe and wearing his reading glasses. The plate is titled "OUR EARLY DAYS -- NOW I'M GRANDFATHER". Our Early Days was a children's primer series depicting children at play, which was the source of the print on this plate. The plate was made in the Staffordshire region of England by an unknown maker, c 1840. The plate is in very good condition, with no chips cracks or repairs. Stilt marks and transfer imperfections, original to the making, as shown. Light crazing and discoloration consistent with the age of the piece. The plate is well potted and the transfer is richly detailed. This great little plate is a joy to behold! Sold as is. Nursery plates from this era are hard to find and quite desirable. The plate is being sold as is, without a reserve. Please send us a message with any questions or if you would like to see additional photos. Thank you for bidding!
