Description: No empty handed man can lure a bird.Untroubled night they say gives council best. Here we offer the classics, Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and Edmund Spencer's The Fairie Queen, plus other poetical selections, published in a large 2-columned collection and "edited for popular perusal" by William P. Nimmo, Edinburgh, in 1870. Boards are worn, bumped, and stained and spine is chipped and has a 1.5-inch split in the lower edge of the leather, though the hinges of this heavy binding are based on cord going directly into the interior board edge and not reliant on the leather spine, so hinges are very secure and the book holds and reads securely without issue. Intact endpapers are uninscribed. Binding is very tight and square. Preliminary flyleaves are foxed, and the text pages vary in pulp from signature to signature, so that some packlets are bright, and some are age-darkened (please see pics.) All pages are very resilient and pliable, however. Text is very clear and both frontispieces are foxed with protective tissues intact. 624 pages; measures approximately 9.5 x 6.5-inches. This remarkable antiquarian pairing will make a wonderful addition to your collection or a very special gift.** Have you seen all the amazing first and rare editions of iconic books we offer?
