William Hord, the previous owner, was on the Pawnee and writes in the right margin on page 151: "The "Pawnee" was struck fifty odd times but only our men were killed & about a dozen wounded - W T Hord." There is another old ink note which appears to be written in another hand stating - "Medical Director Wm. T. Hord participated in this engagement."
