Description: Central Gaul, The Sequani AR Quinarius (Silver), ca. 70-50 BC. Obverse: Male head left with curly hair., Reverse: boar facing left. BMC 408; DLT 5351. This coin has a nice strike and great eye appeal on a thick and slightly oval flan. The Sequani were a Gallic tribe dwelling in the upper river basin of the Arar river (SaƓne), the valley of the Doubs and the Jura Mountains during the Iron Age and the Roman period. During the Gallic Wars they joined in the revolt of Vercingetorix (52 BC) against Roman forces during the last phase of Julius Caesar's Gallic Wars. The quinarius is a silver coin valued at half a Roman denarius. These were minted by the Celts in Gaul to facilitate trade and commerce with Rome. *All items are guaranteed authentic.
