He taught himself architecture. Established Yutaka Saito Architectural Research Institute in 1970. In 1986, he received the Japan Institute of Architects Newcomer Award for "Rururu Abo". In 1992, he received the Yoshida 58th Prize for "Yoshihi-i". In 2000, he received the Architectural Institute of Japan Award and the work selection award "Manzukii". Among his architectural works are "The Architecture of Yutaka Saito" (1998, published by TOTO) and "Contemporary Architects Series: Yutaka Saito" (1994, Kashima Shuppankai). In recent years, he has begun to explore space through the medium of photography, and has published in his photo albums: The Architecture of Luis Barragan (1992), The World of Felix Candela (1995), The Poet of Architecture: Carlo Scarpa (1997), Casa Barragan (2002), The Complete Houses of Louis Caen (2003), Villa Mairea / Alvara Aalto (2005/ All of the above are published by TOTO).
