Grohmann Collection, and the Grohmann Museum Carl Spitzweg was one of the most important German painters of the 19" century. His catalogue of over 1500 works is comprised of paintings and drawings belonging partly to the Biedermeier and Romantic periods, and his late landscapes also display an impressionistic style. Twenty: four out- standing works by Spitzweg from the Milwaukee Art Museur, the Eckhart G. Grohmann Collection, and the Grohmann Museum have been brought together for a special exhibition at the Grohmann Museum (2015). Among them are an early oil study and the first version of the famous painting The Poor Poet. Also featured is an exquisite version of The Bookworm, as well: as other highlights from the artist's work, from which visitors will gain further insight on the artist and his work.
