Description: c.1941 Essex Co Salem Massachusetts Map New Post Office Location ? Delivery Area Vintage used condition. General wear overall expected with age. Wear apparent to corners and edges. I couldn't initially deduce what this map was portraying until I looked up the occupation of the man whose name is inscribed on the map. Records show he was a postal employee. I've come to the conclusion that the most likely subject of this map is post office locations that had been recently opened, closed or moved and their new delivery radii. You'll notice the locations with an "X" through them do not have radii around them, and I presume that is because those offices were closed. The map appears to have originally been drafted in 1924, however, notations on it are from as late as 1941, so that is the year I attributed to the map. I am not a map expert and my conclusions could be incorrect. If you have other information, please reach out.
