'All in the Dark' is a brilliant novel by Sheridan Le Fanu, in which he pokes fun at and satirises the supernatural and spiritual craze of Victorian England. Whilst satirising the sensationalist genre, Le Fanu still embodies a gripping plot in this novel. This novel was first serialised in 1866, and was not a commercial success, being a departure from Le Fanu's typical Gothic horror. 'All in the Dark' is a more light-hearted Victorian romance, with hyperbolic supernatural haunting scenes.Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu was an Irish author known for his gothic, horror and mystery stories. He was one of the leading writers of ghost fiction of the Victorian era, and was integral to the genres development.
