Description: Presented is an exceptional quality antique American coin silver fish serving set, consisting of a large fish slice knife and fork. These pieces date to circa 1853 and were made by Vancourt & Co, a New York maker affiliated with Albert Coles. The handles are done in the classic Albert Coles pattern “Jenny Lind” which began production circa 1851. The blade of the fish slice features a finely hand engraved scene of a man fishing in a river, surrounded by floral and foliate scrollwork and textured detailing. The body of the fork is likewise heavily hand engraved with very intricate bright cut engraving, scrollwork, and flowers. Both pieces have a monogram of SMD on the handle. Please note, this set came to us as part of a lot with another Jenny Lind piece, an ice cream slice by Albert Coles, which you can find by searching the pattern name in our storefront. This serving set is in great overall condition. The details of the pattern are nice and crisp. There is an old repair/reinforcement to the back of where the fork body joins the handle, visible in the second photograph, but this is not something that is easy to distinguish when the set is in use. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no other repairs. Both pieces are stamped with the maker's mark for James S. Vancourt & Co, successor to Albert Coles formerly in partnership with his nephew, William Coles. Both pieces are coin (900) purity silver, nitric acid tested and guaranteed. The fork is about 10 inches long, while the knife is about 11 3/4 inches long. The total weight for both pieces is 282 grams or 9.9 regular ounces.
