Description: C1720 18thC JAPANESE EDO KO-SOMETSUKE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN KAISEKI DISH Description:An antique Japanese 'ko-sometsuke' (old blue and white) porcelain Kaiseki dish, dating to the early 18th Century Edo period (1603-1867), circa 1700-1730.The fine porcelain dish is hand painted in underglaze blue with a pair of confronting sparrows flying above a pine tree and a blossoming peony, both standing in woven bamboo baskets. The outer rim is slightly everted. The underside is undecorated, with a raised unglazed foot rim. The stand is for demonstration purposes and not included. Kaiseki are used during the formal tea ceremony to serve food.
