Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful small Wave Crest Art Glass open dresser box by the C. F. Monroe Co., c. 1900. Measures 2 1/2" high with a maximum width of 3 1/2" and the top diameter of 2 3/4". Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then decorated. Originally called "Opal Ware", this glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Washington Glass Co. and was then purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by their artists. This box features a soft pale blue background with a beautifully enameled hand painted florals in shades of pale pink with white jeweled stamens. The top and base are fitted with a decorative brass band and sits on gilt metal ormolu base. The box is complete with its original silk lining, although in poor condition (see photos). The condition of this lovely box is excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs. The background color is not faded nor is the paint worn.
