Description: Up for sale is an original 19th Century watercolor by Miss Constance B. Foote of Falls Church, Virginia. (Noted Black Virginia Woman Artist) Circa 1880-1890. It is not signed on the front. Inscription Which Appears on the Reverse of the picture - "FALLS CHURCH // 1860 // A COPY FROM A PICTURE // BY MRS. GREER'S UNLCE /// MR. PAGE.// CONIE B. FOOTE"// The painting is of a photograph by Major Page (1860) showing the intersection of present day Broad & Washington Streets, Falls Church, Virginia. The original Columbia Baptist Church is shown; also the "Start Tavern". The painting appears in the book "Falls Church, by Fence and Fireside" by Melvin Steadman. Photo pasted on back is the image as it appears in the book. It is professionally framed in a gold painted wooden frame. The frame measures approximately 23" x 18". It is matted, as well. The watercolor measures approximately 11" x 9". The frame has a lot of cracks, scratches, nicks, and stains on it. The corners of the frame are separating. The painting itself is in Good Condition - although it has not been examined outside of the glass/frame. There is some spotting, stains and browning. There are a few wrinkles and tears, as well - in the bottom right hand corner and along the bottom border. Please email with questions and see my store for other great items.
