Description: Charming Nativity or Creche Scene from West Africa. Bronze or brass, created using the traditional lost wax method. 13 pieces in all! A wonderful assortment of animals (the camel is my favorite!), a shepherd holding a baby goat, the 3 Magi and the Holy Family. The figures measure from just under 3" on height to almost 6 1/2" for one of the Magi. These are not 'fine' castings. They are rather rough with sprue marks, investment material in interstices, imperfections in the castings, and irregular patina. They lived outdoors for years also. Quite durable! They are HEAVY! Not sure if brass or bronze. The entire set weighs nearly 11 lbs. The baby Jesus in his crib appears to be one piece. The 'straw' around him is a bit fragile. There is a sticker on the bottom: TEN THOUSAND VILLAGES Made in Burkina Faso. A rare set! An unusual and charming Nativity! Being sold in its lovely and charming as is condition.
