Description: Selling a Buescher 400 Top Hat & Cane tenor sax, serial # 349267 (1952) Limited photos attached, message for additional photos. This horn is in very good playing condition, and is the second-best tenor I've ever played, second only to my other TH&C. I played this horn exclusively for almost 2 decades since I got it in high school, recorded multiple albums on it, toured internationally, etc. The horn has a medium-dark and spread sound with some sparkle in it, with a very quick and easy response. It's hard to compare to the tone of any other horns, but I would say the closest I've played might be a Yamaha Custom Z or an unlacquered Cannonbell Mad Meg, but darker and better than both of those. Here's the most recent recording I made on it as part of a weird video series I made in 2020:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8pXA1a7fBg&list=PLsEBnb3ykbYlAPTvf1AWI4kQlUcg1PsrB&index=3 Some more specifics: - techs who have looked at it say it's most likely an old factory relacquer, the engraving is still super sharp but the color is lighter and more yellow-ish than original- was overhauled around 2018 w/ black roo pads, all keywork is still very tight w/ almost no play, all cups/toneholes should still be level- all action in good alignment- high quality custom cork risers for 2 palm keys- neck tenon fits tightly, neck cork in great shape- all pinky key rollers freely moving- top 4 left hand stack pads were replaced more recently w/ standard Musicmedic pads and are all still soft and sealing very well- remaining roo pads are sealing decently w/ some small leaks here and there that require a little extra pressure- several minor dents here and there, some of which were already removed, nothing major that affects playability (see photos)- slight remaining indentation inside bell that was mostly removed from where brace dented it inward long ago- original Buescher spuds were professionally ground out of the keycups over a decade ago, so it's less "original" but more modern-repad-friendly and easier for most techs to work on, making replacing pads the same as on any other horn (I might even have the original snaps somewhere and can try to find them if you care)- a couple posts & 2 joints on neck brace were re-soldered several years ago and still holding strong (see photos)- comes in original case which is pretty beat up and mostly only good for storage Have any questions or want any more recording examples, please let me know! Shipped or local pickup in Los Angeles (if you're in town for NAMM I'll be there).Shipping cost is an estimate. Adjustments for actual cost will be refunded/invoiced as necessary.
