He had a sister, born a year earlier, Constança who married the King of Castile, Ferdinand IV. In 1309, D. Afonso IV married Infanta Beatriz, daughter of King Sancho IV of Castile, this son of Alfonso X, the Wise who was the maternal grandfather of King Dinis, father of Afonso IV; as such, the bride and groom are cousins.
