Description: Vintage British Welcome to England 1867 volunteers medal, on the reverse: 1867 In Commemoration of Their Visit to England. The medal was given to volunteers of the Belgian Legion who went to fight in Mexico to support Emperor Maximilian I whose wife was Princess Charlotte, daughter of Leopold I King of the Belgians (he was also the uncle of both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert). The medal is very small on a purple ribbon, extremely rare.
