Description: FIELD, Cyril. BLUMBERG, H. E. BRITAIN’S SEA SOLDIERS: A History of the Royal Marines and their predecessors and of their service in action, ashore and afloat, and upon sundry other occasions of moment. The first two volumes by Colonel Cyril Field published 1924 by The Lyceum Press. Quarter black cloth over blue cloth boards, gilt lettering to spine and front board. Together with A Record of the Royal Marines during the War 1914-1919. Devonport: Swiss & Co. 1927. Quarter black cloth over blue cloth boards, gilt to spine and central front board. All first editions, all quartos, final volume with all edges gilt. With numerous colour illustrations behind tissue, mono illustrations, maps, plans, and more, and a rather handy chronological index detailing major and forgotten moments of bravery from the Marines. An excellent set, the boards rubbed and bumped at the corners, the spines a trifle bumped at tips, the spine panels faded a little to first two volumes, but all bindings tight and square, internally usually fine with one ink signature to the third volume with faint offsetting facing, prelims lightly toned but a more than handsome example of the set. Scarce as such.
