Description: Rooster, Cat, Dog, and Donkey Stacked FigurinesPainted metal statue on white, rectangular marble.Metal sculpture, presumably bronze or spelter, is 8 inch tall.Marble base is 5.5 inch x 2.375 inch x 0.56 inch.1 pound 5 ounce weight. This sculpture is a representation of the Bremen Town Musicians, from a German fairy tale, “Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten.” The story was eventually collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 19th century. The donkey has its front legs on a barrel. On top of the donkey is a spaniel or hound. On top of the dog is a tabby cat. On top of the cat is a rooster. The animals have their mouths open in song. They are painted in shades of brown, white, grey, orange, and red. They have pink mouths. There is a rectangular fragment of metal by the barrel. It probably held a sign that said “Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten.” The craftsmanship is amazing. The animals have sweet faces and much detail work on their fur, feathers, paws, feet, and hooves. This is a wonderful sculpture and a rare, large version. The sculpture is near its original condition. Please judge the workmanship and condition from the photos. The metal is not magnetic, except for the little sign fragment. There are tiny, silvertone exposed areas that may indicate spelter as the alloy. It rings slightly when tapped. The marble is unpolished white and grey with red felt on the underside.
