Description: The Kaleidoscope House was designed in 2001 by artist Laurie Simmons and architect Peter Wheelwright for Bozart Toys and in the ensuing years has become a true classic. (There’s plenty of background information online.) It’s a brightly colored plastic house on three levels with sliding transparent doors designed for creative interactive play. The structure is basically white with blue, pink, green, and yellow sliding panels. The chimney stack is red. Half of the roof is an attic with a blue concave roof looking out on a flat white rooftop. A floor to ceiling room occupies half the interior and serves as a dining and sitting area. Furniture was specially designed for the house and was sold separately. The family designed for the house (also sold separately) is based on the two designers and their children; presumably one of the kids represents Simmons’ daughter, filmmaker Lena Dunham. See separate listings for people. The house measures 31 inches wide x 23 inches deep x 24-1/4 inches to the top of the chimney. It’s heavy, weighing in at 45 lbs. It’s 1:12 scale. We purchased this dollhouse from the original owner 12 years ago and since then it has been carefully displayed in a smoke-free environment and never played with. It comes with its colorful original display box, and will be shipped in its original corrugated shipping container. The original shipping label indicates that it was first purchased from the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. One blue panel is cracked, as shown in the photo. One door panel has a missing prong, but I was never able to figure out where the panel goes, so it was never an issue. Free local pickup is available.
