Description: This is an old document, dated June 23, 1843, with the location identified as Boston, Massachusetts. The document is handwritten, and is a receiptfor a payment of interest by General Amory Holman(1796-1876), a lawyer and a general in the militia. He was involved in local politics, and was awell known local businessman. He married Fanny Whitcomb in 1819, and the couple had four sons. Holman ran several profitable business ventures in the town of Bolton, whichis near Boston. Holman ran the Holman Inn from 1818 through 1858, was involved as a trader in the mulberry and silkworm industry, and owned a small shoe shop as the largest shareholder in the Bolton Shoe Company. Holman’s chief interest, however, was his stage coach business, Gen. Amory Holman’s Bolton & Lancaster Stage Company. Holman had a contract with the U.S. Mail Department, and delivered mail across New Hampshire, Vermont, and Western Massachusetts. This receipt was for a payment of $120, for intereston a debt to a man whose name I cannot make out, but which looks sort of like "Samuel Theredall"(although I am sure that the last name is something else). This man appears to have signed his name onthe back of this receipt (see last two scans). This document is about 4" by 8". It is in good condition, with moderate wear. PLEASE NOTE: I have several other receipts connected with General Holman, which I willbe listing for sale on eBay soon. Shipping is FREE within the USA via USPS First Class Mail.
