Description: Blue Funnel Line: A souvenir loving cup with three handles (also known as a tyg) from the souvenir shop aboard the PATROCLUS of 1923. The cup is just under 1.5" tall and features an attached brass medallion with the Arnold Holt houseflag. The ship name is in a flowing banner underneath. The PATROCLUS stirred controversy in November 1940 when, as an armed merchant cruiser, she came to the aid of the torpedoed White Star liner LAURENTIC, which in turn had stopped to rescue survivors from the torpedoed Elder and Fyffe's ship CASANARE. Since there was a sub in the vicinity, protocol dictated that the PATROCLUS not stop. But stop she did, and soon U-99 captain Otto Kretschmer chalked up his third sinking of the day. He had to fire seven torpedoes into the ship as she was carrying empty barrels which kept her afloat for five hours. Very good condition.
