Description: It's time to sell some of my Morgan dollars, and when I came across this beautiful wooden presentation case, I decided what better way than this to start. So I chose a selection that I thought would be interesting, well-balanced, and attractive together. I made an effort to choose a variety of different time periods, mints, and levels of circulation wear, as these age so beautifully over time. Every decade of production is represented, and several mints. I'm giving summary descriptions here, you can go down a rabbit hole and spend hours studying each one to figure out which VAM (variety) it is. So we have:1878 About Uncirculated. A first-year issue, frosty fields with luster peeking through.1878, 8 Tail Feathers, Fine or better. I included this scarcer variety to complement the first piece, which is the more common seven tail feather variety. It's easy to see the difference in die design with sharp eyes or a magnifier.1879 Choice Extra Fine. Gentle gold peripheral toning.1881 Very Fine+. An arc of blue and gold toning extends from nine to twelve o'clock.1882-S About Uncirculated. Those early S mint Morgans have sharp features and vivid strikes with reflective fields; this piece represents them nicely.1885-S Extra Fine. I chose this because I wanted to include a harder date, I think the '85-S is a sleeper, almost never see them at all.1886 A.U. Details. A smooth cheek suggests a possible past cleaning.1888-O EF to AU. The first of three New Orleans Mint issues. This mint had quality issues, but this piece is a nice one.1899-O Brilliant Uncirculated. I don't like to give UNC designations to coins unless they deserve it, but here I can't see traces of wear. This beauty may be the anchor of the collection.1900 About Uncirculated. A millennial issue!1904-O About Uncirculated, with distinctive cartwheel luster characteristic of original surfaces.1921 AU. A last-year issue. 1921s are generally shunned by Morgan collectors for having a more muddled design. This one is a clean example, with the distinctively different dentils of this year.Make no mistake: This is not a perfect assembly of coins. You may detect hairlines from past cleanings and see some small oxidation spots. However there are no culls here, no holes, heavy edge dings or other garish damage. Just a nice group for the beginning or intermediate collector, and a super wooden case with archival capsules that you can use to upgrade the coins with future purchases. I have taken half a dozen authentication courses with the American Numismatic Association and am a life member. I try to grade honestly and conservatively. PLEASE understand grading is a subjective science, and if you truly have any issues upon personal inspection we invite you to reach out before considering the deal done and exchanging feedback. I would rather under promise and overdeliver than have a dissatisfied customer. Fast, safe shipping to the happy winner. I did structure the listing to allow for offers and negotiation, but also believe my asking price is fair, so don't miss this one! We will combine shipping on multiple items when feasible.
