Description: FOREWORD WHY do you plan to read these Bible stories to your chil- dren? Why do you feel that it is important that they learn and remember them? Is it because they contain valuable moral lessons? Because they are exciting and adventurous? Or because they are a part of our literary heritage? To be sure, they are all of these things, but so are fables, fairy tales, and many novels. The important difference is that these stories are a part of God's Word. Our Father deemed them valuable enough to preserve them through centuries in order that we might learn of Him and His divine nature and of the way we can embrace a part of that nature in our acceptance of Jesus Christ. This knowledge complicates the task of one who attempts to retell Bible stories and at the same time ennobles his work. With this in mind, I set about to relate in this book the most familiar Bible stories, maintaining some continuity between each one in order to present the grand picture of God's plan for His people in this world. The outcome was one hundred two stories-from Adam, through Abraham, Moses, the kings, and the prophets to Jesus Christ and His followers. The facts have been taken directly from the Bib- lical narrative, with no attempt to introduce a particular denominational creed or doctrine. To attract the child's interest, I have improvised and invented conversations be- tween characters; but in cases where they are recorded, even these are from the Scriptures themselves.
