This is a Pin for Pin Hardware Drop In replacement for the Basic Stamp 2 IC BUT where as the standard BS2 runs at around 4000 Basic Instructions per Second this unit will run at 33,000 BIPS !, also the standard BS2 has 32 bytes of RAM and this device has 368 bytes, the BS2 can hold around 500 BASIC instruction in its program memory where as this unit can hold around 4000 BASIC instructions in its 14K program space, this unit also has a 256 byte EEPROM for user use, The version of BASIC that this microcontroller uses is also far more powerfull than the original BS2 version, All the hardware necessary for programming it is built in. (BS2) Pin Compatible, Easy to use, Upgradable Firmware, Free Software, Includes O'Scope and In Circuit Debugger (ICD). The BasicATOM software has a built-in In Circuit Debugger (ICD). Instead of spending additional time strategically planting debug statements throughout your entire program wouldn't you rather just watch it execute line-by-line and see what each variable is doing ? You can do just that with the Basic ATOM's (ICD). To use the BasicATOM's ICD feature you simply click the "Debug" button. The ICD will display your program and follow its flow line-by-line, highlighting each line as it is being executed on the BasicATOM. The BasicATOM Microcontroller has built in hardware such as Analog to Digital Converter (A/D), Capture / Compare (CCP), Timers, Interrupts and Pulse width modulators (PWM). Why are hardware features better than software ? With built-in hardware the Basic ATOM Microcontroller can produce faster and more accurate pulse width modulation (PWM) then can be done in software. Without the built-in hardware like the analog to digital converters (A/D), you would have to purchase additional hardware and your programs would likely increase in complexity.
