Description: Bal Gangadhar Tilak, endeared as Lokmanya, was an Indian independence activist. Born to a middle-class Brahman family, Tilak taught mathematics and in 1884 founded the Deccan Education Society to help educate the masses. Through two weekly newspapers, he voiced his criticisms of British rule in India, hoping to widen the popularity of the nationalist movement beyond the upper classes. He was a scholar, mathematician, philosopher, and ardent nationalist who helped lay the foundation for India’s independence by building his own defiance of British rule into a national movement. The British colonial authorities called him "The father of the Indian unrest." Free shipping with USPS Media Mail.
