This book is filled with stories about her life-- she worked in Budapest in her husband's chocolate and pastry-making firm before coming to England in 1931. They had to leave Hungary as trouble started to brew and their first home in England was in York, where her husband had a contract with Rowntrees (famous English chocolate). Floris started her world-famous business on January 4th, 1937 drawing on Seebohm Rowntree for vital support. She lost three hundred pounds in the first three months. During the war, when rationing and shortage of flour threatened the country and, most of all, the luxury business she had built specializing in exquisite confectionery, Madame Floris tells that posters encouraging people to eat more potatoes and less bread; gave her the idea of baking bread with a forty percent content of potato instead of flour.
