Derived directly from Pierre Paulin's 1984 Mitterand Elysee Office tables. Very good original vintage condition; complete. The table is strong & sturdy. Structurally excellent. Small mark of finish loss to table top. It is likely that fewer than 16 of these tables were produced, in addition to this prototype. This rare original prototype is from the Pierre Paulin Collection introduced at the Baker Executive Office showroom at the 1988 Chicago NEOCON show. It is believed that this is the actual table as photographed for Page 16 of the Baker Pierre Paulin Collection catalog.* The table is sold with the original shipping tag for Baker’s private trucking system. Acquired by current owner, a long time Baker employee from the Paulin era. Acquired directly from Baker Design Department, Grand Rapids, 1989. The inset photo on the room setting image is the original Baker cover with its vellum overlay. *Pierre Paulin was the French designer of choice at the Elysee Palace, with full renovations for the private residence of President Georges Pompidou, and then the Presidential reception area for Francois Mitterand. In 1984, Paulin designed a new suite of furniture for Mitterand, and it was this design that served as the genesis of the Baker collection. This influence is most notable in the Baker prototype cocktail table shown in a separate eBay listing, one photo of which is included here.**In the 1980’s, Baker brought attention to its Executive Office division with a notable introduction at NEOCON each June. The year prior to the Paulin introduction, it was the limited edition Porsche Chair that created the desired “buzz” for Baker. Both of these introductions were extraordinary craftsmanship, but with commensurate prices, which considerably limited sales.Appraised Value: in 2016 this table, and a matched cocktail table were estimated by the premier Chicago Auction house at $3,000 - $5,000 each, with a suggested reserve of $2400.
