Description: Avishai Cohen is an Israeli jazz double bassist, composer, singer and arranger. Not to be confused with the trumpeter of the same name.He studied music at "The New School for Music" and played with some Latin jazz bands, which made it easy for Danilo Pérez to call him to be part of his trio. After a long period playing small clubs, Cohen got a call from Chick Corea and got a recording contract. In 1996, he became a member of the Korean sextet ("Origin"), and released his first album on their label Stretch. Cohen remained with Korea until 2003, when he created his own label; since then he has played with his own group, the Avishai Cohen Trio, with Mark Guiliana on drums and his compatriot Shai Maestro on piano). In some recordings he expanded the group with wind instruments.Cohen has accompanied, recorded and performed with a good number of musicians, in addition to Korea, such as Bobby McFerrin, Roy Hargrove, Herbie Hancock, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Nnenna Freelon or Paquito D'Rivera. He has also collaborated with Claudia Acuña (Wind from the South, 2000), Alicia Keys and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, with considerable media coverage. He has been highlighted by Down Beat, and designated as one of the most influential bassists of the 20th century by Bass Player magazine.
