The design has an embossed center band with 6 panels featuring 3 different "Heads" separated with Pinwheels. Marked: in a shield: Rogers, Smith / -& Co.- / Meriden, Ct. / Quadriple - followed by the pattern number '40' This mark is the 'old' mark used from the founding of the company in 1857 until the sale of the holloware division in 1862.
