Description: Art Institute of Chicago 18"x26" / image size 15"x22"Fine art giclée print inspired by vintage travel posters. Beginning as an art school and gallery in 1866, the museum of the Art Institute of Chicago is located on Michigan Avenue at the edge of Grant Park. The second largest art musuem in the United States, it features an incomparable collection of Impressionist art, collections of industrial and graphic design, architecture, and a new modern wing with 20th and 21st Century art, sculpture and photography. The lions flanking the western entrance were designed by Edward L. Kemeys for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition; while the originals were made of a temporary plaster, they were recast in bronze when presented in 1894 as a gift to the Art Institute. Kemeys referred to the north lion as being ‘on the prowl’, and the southern lion as having an ‘attitude of defiance’. Art Institute of Chicago is one of the images from the series Urbs Ex Memoria: City of Memories.
