Description: On offer is this pair of French Art Deco chromed Bas reliefs of Classical maidens from the "Fontaine des Innocents" sculpted by Jean Goujon in the 16th century. Jean Goujon designed the Fountaine des Innocents with reference to roman and greek classical statues and there were 4 nymphs or water carriers in bas relief to the base of the fountain......these are now in the Louvre............many reproductions of these bas reliefs were made in the 19th and early 20th century....mainly by F.Barbedienne in Bronze. This pair of bas reliefs date to the 1920's when at the start of the Art Deco period Chromed Items were all the rage........they appear to be bronze under the chrome and are heavy at well over a kilo each. Each plaque has a strong fixing with the original chain intact. Condition is good ...and the chrome is still nice and bright with just small signs of wear / pitting...consistent with age and use. They measure 28.5cms by 11cms by 1.5 cms. Combined weight is just under 3 kilos.
