REVIEWER is The SIRE of Hall of Fame Filly and one of the greatest of all time RUFFIAN ! REVIEWER Sired the Champion Filly REVIDERE as well. DIKE won this GOTHAM STAKES by a neck with REVIEWER finishing 2nd in a dead heat with ROONEYS SHIELD DIKE is trained by HALL OF FAME trainer LUCIEN LAURIN He is most famous for training RIVA RIDGE and SECRETARIAT a few years later. RIVA RIDGE was foaled 8 days after the date of this program and SECRETARIAT was foaled just under a year after the Gotham Stakes. ( A race he himself won! ) DIKE would win The Wood Memorial in his next race and follow with a 3rd place finishes in both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes against the two Hall of Fame Horses MAJESTIC PRINCE and ARTS AND LETTERS. REVIEWER missed the Classics as he suffered a Cannon Bone fracture in the Wood Memorial and was sidelined over a year. REVIEWER was a great horse. He was never out of the money. He had 13 career starts winning 9 with 3 2nds and 1 3rd. With a bit of luck he could have won 12 of his 13 races as he was only beaten by a neck in both The Gotham Stakes and The Wood Memorial. He was beaten just by a head in The Metropolitan Hcp. won by Champion Nodouble who set a new 1 mile track record. So those 3 2nd place finishers he was beat by just a head and 2 necks. In 13 career races REVIEWER ran in 10 major Stakes. He set a new track record defeating Hall of Famer GALLANT BLOOM in the 1 1/8 Mile NASSAU COUNTY STAKES in 1:46 4/5 at Belmont Park. SECRETARIAT would break that record when he won the 1973 Marlboro Cup in 1:45 2/5 ( A New WORLD RECORD ) and Secretariat's 1 1/8 Mile track record still stand at Belmont today. REVIEWER by BOLD RULER ( Sire of SECRETARIAT ) had a Full Sister named QUEEN OF THE STAGE who was a 1967 CHAMPION FILLY. THE HISTORIC GOTHAM STAKES had its first running in 1953 ( Won by NATIVE DANCER ) and still runs each year today. Its a major prep race for the upcoming Triple Crown races. The program has some nice horses on the undercard. In the 6th you have EXCEEDINGLY who defeated one of the greatest, (DAMASCUS), in The Willian DuPont Jr. Handicap. In the 5th another Claiborne Farm Lucien Laurin horse BLADE wins at 1-5. He became a nice sire lots of stakes winners. In the 2nd race you have the WAR ADMIRAL horse, KILMORAY racing as a 10 year old. He was a multiple stakes winner between 1963 and 1966 earing 1/4 million dollars and ran 2nd to KELSO in The DIAMOND STATE HANDICAP.
