He helped arrange the ceremonies that honored the astronauts. These are some of the pictures that were presented to those who helped make their visit a success. The Apollo 10 mission splashdown The Apollo 10 crew including Thomas Stafford, Eugene Cernan, and John Young splashed down on May 26, 1969, about 400 miles east of American Samoa in the Pacific Ocean following a successful eight-day mission. The astronauts were recovered by the USS Princeton and spent about four hours aboard. The astronauts were then helicoptered to Tafuna International Airport in Pago Pago (the capital city), American Samoa. The heroic astronauts were brought to beautiful shores in Pago Pago for an exciting welcome celebration. The astronauts were greeted by Governor Owen S.
