Yawman and Erbe from Rochester, New York have a long cabinetry and wood-working manufacturing history and are renown for quality craftmanship. This beautifully crafted antique index cabinet has striking oak dovetail wood panels and drawers. Each drawer has a handle with "Y and E" engraved in the metal. There is an additional metal trademark plate on the left drawer. There is a framed slot for printed labels on each handle. The main manufacturer plate is mounted below the drawers in the center of the cabinet, is mounted firmly, and is completely legible (see images). Condition: The cabinet is well preserved considering its age, but it does have some signs of handling. The drawers move freely out from the cabinet, but the left drawer sits slightly angled when looking directly at the front of the cabinet. The back of the left drawer (when pulled out of the cabinet) shows a seam and some repair at the back end (see images). The left drawer has a track guide mechanism on the inside of the drawer and a moveable interior wall panel with metal spring and hardware (this is for the intended card index system). The wall panel slides well in the track, but the hardware doesn't seem to lock the movable wall panel in place. The right drawer has a track also, but no movable wall panel. The outer panels of the cabinet and drawers are strong and robust. There are no "feet" on the underside of this cabinet.
