Description: This item is an antique vintage right-handed 36" wood shaft iron. It is a banned deep groover Mashie Pitcher. Rare to find a mashie pitcher much less a deep groove mashie pitcher. George Nicoll in Scotland at their Leven Fife factory. Has an S inside an O on the back as well. This stands for Ouimet and Sullivan. Yes, that is the famous Francis Ouimet. After he won the U S Open in 1913 Ouimet opened a sporting goods business with his brother-in-law James Sullivan in the Boston area. Ouimet lost his amateur status because the USGA deemed him to be a professional since he sold golf clubs with his name on them in the store. The head is in good vintage condition. 36* loft and a C 7 swingweight. The head is clean and not all rusted. It does have the expected play nicks and dings. Please look at the many zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old apparently original hickory. The shaft has a very minor bend, I see no cracks and it has some play at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play. The grip is an old long leather wrap that is in good vintage condition. Great collectible. If you are considering playing with this club all wooden shafted irons should be re-set prior to play. While I see no issues with the shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These wooden shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee wooden shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old wooden shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old wooden shafted wood with a hard range ball. Shipping in the US is calculated and based on a 3-pound box. This item shipped UPS Ground. For those of you that never ship but only receive items, the further you are from me in NC the more shipping will be. That is the way the carriers charge. On top of that, eBay and takes almost 15% of what I receive for shipping (out of $10 I receive $8.50) and I would like to break even. eBay collects sales tax for many states. They charge me 15% for that service and I never see that money. Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
