This piece is a large compote base depicting three young childern playing around an apple tree. One young girl is sitting at the base of the tree holding an apple and several apples sitting in her lap. Another young girl has one hand on a ladder as she looks up at the young boy reaching out atop the ladder trying to grab another apple. This base of the compote is the trunk of the tree. The tree has several branches on it with apples. There is a basket of apples on the ground and lovely flowers. This base of compote measures at 10 1/2" tall and 6" wide at its widest point. Von Schierholz porcelain dates from around 1817. Since it's inception, rather than foucs of dinnerware, the Von Schierholz factory has produced some of the greatest examples of porcelain vases, compotes and figural items in the storied history of Meissen, Dresden and other producers in Germany. The Von Schierholz porcelain factory is still located in its original location of plaue in Thuringla, Germany. I believe this piece was made in the earlier part of the 1900's.
