Description: Hi This club is a nicely restored hickory shafted Golf Club. 40 1/2" length with approximately 13* of loft. The crown is stamped Nichols Special and the shaft is Stamped J&D Foulis Select. Brass Sole Plate. I see no cracks and the shaft is firmly attached to the head. Firm flex. Nice long leather grip in good condition and appears to be original. From Antique Golf Clubs From Scotland website........ James Foulis (1870 - 1928) was the son of a foreman at Tom Morris's but learned his trade as a clubmaker at Robert Forgan’s. In 1895 he emigrated to the United States to become professional at Chicago Golf Club, the country's first 18 hole course. David Foulis was born in Crail’s Lane, St Andrews, on 19 April 1868 to James Foulis and his wife Helen Ann, née Jamieson. He took part in the first US Open in 1895 finishing third and won it the following year at Shinnecock Hills. David Foulis was born in Crail’s Lane, St Andrews, on 19 April 1868 to James Foulis and his wife Helen Ann, née Jamieson. His brother, Foulis, was already a successful professional in Chicago when David emigrated to the United States with two brothers John and Robert, sailing from Liverpool aboard the Teutonic on 11 March, the three arriving in New York on 19 March. David joined James at the Chicago Golf Club as his assistant and the brothers formed the business J & D Foulis which patented the mashie niblick in 1904. He took over from his brother as head professional at Wheaton in 1905 and remained there until 1916. After the war he was the first professional at the Hinsdale GC in Chicago, from 1921, and remained there until retiring in 1939. He died in Hinsdale on 11 June 1950. These old hickory's can always have hidden cracks and I do not guarantee they will hold up if put into play. Shipping $12.99 Thanks for looking and good luck!
