Description: This is a set of three Waterford AKA Waffle mugs made by the Hocking Glass Co., which was produced from 1938 to 1944. The pattern was an inexpensive pattern to product but gave the appearance of being expensive which made it popular with the low-income people at the time. This class of people could set their table that would give the appearance that they had hand-cut crystal glass without the price of hand-cut crystal glass making this class of people feel good during the depression years which was in the late 30s and early 40s. The pattern was coped from the hand-cut lead crystal glass. The Waterford Waffle design features a raised crisscross diamond design on the exterior of the glass at right angles giving it a diamond appearance. It came in five colors which was clear, pink, amber, and a limited amount of yellow, and in the 1950s, the Hocking Glass Co. produced forest green glass. The pink Waterford Waffle mugs were the most popular color and is very hard to find today. It is a machine pressed in a two part mold and was made by Hocking Glass Co. which later became known as Anchor Hocking Glass Co. The mugs are in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, necks, repairs, or stains marks.
