Description: Sonnenberg Belton Bisque Head Doll. This is a nice example of a German Belton head doll on a cloth body. The doll is 14 inches tall. It is referred to as a Sonnenberg Belron doll. Based on the open mouth it was likely made in the 1890’s. The maker is unknown. The style of the head and body was intended to emulate the very high-priced French dolls of the 1880’s and 1890’s. The molded shoulder head has glass sleep eyes and inset teeth on a cloth body with composition hands. It has a human hair wig that is possibly original to the doll. She is wearing an antique dress, pinafore, and underwear that are likely original to the doll. The body has been covered by a new union suit to protect and stabilize the original body.
