Designed with a screw style adjustment, it has wood mounted panels on each handle side. Condition is very worn - there is overall darkening and wear to the iron - wood is split as shown around the mount nail and there is movement as a result - both pieces are still secure, but should be glued to prevent loss. I think this has such a neat look - it is definitely primitive and early - unmarked as to maker, but guessing it dates first quarter of the 1900s.
