Description: Antique Russian Rosewood Secretaire Abbatant Desk Circa 1825 A spectacular Russian secretaire abbatant, circa 1825. Made during the golden age of Russian furniture (1780-1840), the desk is rosewood, with extremely fine marquetry inlay in a very light wood, birch or maple. It has a flat top with a slab of white marble over a molded cornice, all over one long drawer. Below that, a drop front leather top writing surface. The interior of the desk has a mirrored back with two sections of 'stepped' drawers with pulls and several mechanical “trick” drawers, which open on a hidden spring action. The interior with fine marquetry inlay throughout. The bottom double door cupboard opens to two pull out drawers over an open section veneered in birch or maple. The secretary has marquetry inlay throughout with oak and either maple or birch secondary woods. Style wise, it is a mixture of classical and gothic revival elements, with some unique Russian designs to the inlay work. It measures 58” high by 43” wide by 20” deep. With original finish, hardware and keys. Condition is very good overall. Guaranteed to be as described. Note: This period in Russia is known for it's high quality, superior craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
