Otto van Veen, also known by his Latinized name Otto Venius or Octavius Vaenius, (c.1556 – 6 May 1629) was a painter, draughtsman, and humanist active primarily in Antwerp and Brussels in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century. Subject: Antique print, titled: 'Quis enim securus amavit?' - ("Who is safe to love?"). Cupid stands by a roaring fire, holding tongs in the flames. The argument is that just like a flame cannot be caught, so the lover's heart and soul are elusive.Condition: Very good, given age. The edges of the sheet faintly soiled. A tear in the top left margin corner, with an old restoration to the rear. A small nick in the lower margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
